- Among 32 schools across Western Australia to share in funding
- Grant of $1,800 awarded for FOGO and recycling project
Member for Warren-Blackwood, Jane Kelsbie, has welcomed an announcement by Environment Minister Reece Whitby of $109,000 for WA schools to undertake a range of waste management projects – including $1,800 for St Thomas More Catholic Primary School here in Warren-Blackwood.
St Thomas More Catholic Primary School is among a total of 32 Western Australian schools to share in the funding for projects to reduce waste disposed to landfill.
St Thomas More Catholic Primary School will use the funding to undertake a project that will provide waste management education as well as installing a FOGO bin, a general waste bin, recycling bins and paper recycling bins.
The program, previously known as Waste Wise Schools, is run by the Waste Authority, and funded through a levy on waste to landfill as part of the State’s Waste Strategy 2030.
It provides funding for school infrastructure and initiatives that avoid and recover school waste, such as paper and cardboard, food waste, single-use packaging and general recycling.
All accredited Western Australian schools are eligible to apply for a grant of up to $5,500.
Applications for the next funding grant can be made between 18 July and 30 August 2022 and Ms Kelsbie has encouraged more schools in Warren-Blackwood to apply.
