- Denmark WA Women’s soccer team attend Denmark’s first FIFA Women’s World Cup match
- The team also met the Danish players and attended a special training session
- Jane Kelsbie MLA sponsored the team’s attendance at the match and their stay in Perth
The Denmark WA Women’s soccer team were in the stands at HBF Park in Perth on Saturday night to see Denmark’s national side secure a last gasp 1-0 victory over China in their opening match of the 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup.
The match capped off a memorable week for our up-and-coming footballers. The previous week members of the team were specially invited to the Kvindelandsholdet closed training session where they met the Danish national team and saw them train.
WA Denmark’s coach, Mike Garland, said the ‘training day to match day’ experience allowed his team to see up close how world class players prepare and perform on the biggest stage.
“To see some of the best players in the world in action allowed my team to see what young women like them can achieve with hard work and dedication.”
“Meeting the Danish players really inspired them to be the best they can be.”
Mr Garland was full of praise for his local member, Jane Kelsbie MLA who helped organise the special training session and sponsored the team’s stay in Perth and tickets for the game.
“Jane was instrumental in making this whole experience happen.
“Her excitement and enthusiasm were infectious.
“We really can’t thank her enough.’
Perth will host another four World Cup matches throughout the tournament:
- July 26 — Canada v Republic of Ireland
- July 29 — Panama V Jamaica
- August 1 — Haiti v Denmark
- August 3 — Morocco V Colombia
Perth is one of eight host cities across Australia and Aotearoa New Zealand, as joint host nations for the FIFA Women's World Cup Australia & New Zealand 2023.

“It was wonderful to sponsor these young Denmark players up to HBF Park to watch world-class women’s soccer at the FIFA Women’s World Cup Denmark vs China PR game.
“Seeing the enthusiasm and joy on the faces of our young sportswomen - especially when Denmark scored in the last minute to win the match – was awesome!
“It’s probably a week of soccer they’ll not forget in a hurry – meeting the team, watching them train and then watching them take the win on the pitch. Outstanding.”
